Pandora
Pandora by Carlos Gonda Illustrated by Federico Javinal Cover Pilipino Komiks Issue No. 192 September 25 1954
Serial Pilipino Komiks Issue No. 191 September 18 1954
Coching already retired by the time Zuniga ang company invaded the States. Bakit kaya? Buhay pa itong si Javinal, sana'y mayroong magtanong kong bakit. We could at least or the American comics fan could at least have seen the style of Coching even through Javinal. Kuhang-kuha niya si Coching, e. BTW, the date on the cover is exactly my birthday. I had just finished Elementary School. Also the cover illustration is by Alfredo Alcala Rod
You're right. He never bothered to do US work. Same thing with NESTOR LEONIDEZ. He was asked to do US comics in the 1970s but he wasn't interested. His younger brother, Rey told me this.
What happened to Nestor Leonides, is he still around? Rod
Leonidez passed away several years ago. I think VIC CRISOSTOMO is still alive.
This site is re-living the glorious comics illustrations of Philippine komiks. I only wonder why educators of olden days were the most vehement critics of komiks. They have never seen the beauty of this medium.
JM, And the literary critics as well. None of our literary novelists, who have been conferred all kinds of awards for Philippine literature, have touched Filipinos more than these "komiks" novelists. "Komiks lang yan," was the general dismissive concensus. Rod
